How to Throw an Environment Conscious Wedding (Pt. 2)

Everything we do on earth as humans has an impact! This is part two of our two part series on how to throw a wedding celebration that is environmentally conscious. We have provided a wide variety of ideas for you to take or leave as you continue planning the wedding of your dreams!

The Paper

The ultimate way to save energy and resources on wedding stationary is to keep it simple and direct your guests to the wedding website! Keep an eye out for stationary companies that use recycled-paper. You can even ask your invitation designer to add a small line at the bottom of the invitation (or on the back) reminding your guests to recycle the paper that they receive from you!

The Catering

The farm-to-table movement is huge right now! This is great news for the environmentally conscious bride. Choose caterers who support local farms and agriculture! Not only will your food taste fresh-as-can-be, but it will also make its way to your table using less carbon emissions. You can also request in-season produce for your dishes, will will reduce your cost and will ensure the freshest and most delicious plates. Farms that grass-feed their animals are a plus! A huge impact that you can make, and a simple one, is not serving meat at your wedding. Meat requires much more water than produce, and taking it off your menu is a huge step towards sustainability. You can also work with your baker to inquire about where they source their eggs and dairy products. Seek out dessert caterers who use natural ingredients. To reduce on food waste, be sure you spend the time checking and rechecking your RSVP list so you are not throwing out tons of leftover food at the end of the night.

The Favors

Many guests end up throwing their favors away after the wedding, especially if they are traveling and do not have the room in their suitcase. Choose favors that are edible to be sure that they won’t go to waste! Succulents have also been a consistent trend for weddings, so sending your guests home with succulents as wedding favors is a great way to gift something biodegradable and fun.
